What if it’s the duality of BOTH?!
Every new calendar year marks a milestone, it provides a focal point for reflection, and is a benchmark for the bigger picture. And 2022 is no exception! While we may not feel any different from 2021, we are always made for change. All we have to do is embrace it.
Before we get into the nitty-gritty of how to do just that, let me tell you what makes this year so special…
2+2+2 = 6
When you add the numbers in 2022, you get 6, that is why this year is “year of the 6”.
You’re probably thinking, “What does that mean?!” In numerology, the energy of a six resonates with home and family, harmony, healing, and idealism. This year reveals itself to be centered around instilling discipline, boundaries, and benevolence. It assists all of us coming together in support of one another. Six connects our worldly dreams with our divine purpose through balance and repetition, and after all the changes brought by the previous “year five”, it’s finally time to make the most of what we have!
So with that in mind…
Many of us set resolutions for the year ahead, but why can it be such a challenge to make them stick?
To do anything in life, we must:
- dream it
- organize it, or plan it
- live it
It is possible to create changes in your life that benefit you both in this year of the six and beyond. But if you want to achieve something specific, it is important that you find a balance between planning for the future (the dream) and living in the present (the reality).
Most importantly, allow yourself the freedom to dream! Don’t hold back, let your imagination roam free! Close your eyes and ask yourself: what will truly add meaning to my life?
Carve out the time and space to craft your vision. Yoga and mediation are the practices I have come to reply on, in my quest for answers like this. They offer space to clear the clutter of my mind, harness the power of my imagination, and to look deep within myself for answers.
The next step is to set intentions. When we set intentions, we reveal what we’d like to have, feel, and experience. It is through the act of setting intentions that we take control of our lives. Intentions provide you with the ability to participate in your life the way you want to live it.
To quote the ancient Hindu text, the Upanishads: “You are what your deepest desire is. As your desire is, so is your intention. As your intention is, so is your will. As your quill is, so is your deed. As your deed is, so is your destiny.”
Change comes through the act of doing, so the next steps are to organize your visions and intentions, and then live them! Lather, rinse, repeat! You might know me from Studio Morpho Bleu here in Montréal, Canada. Lately, I've been craving much more than just an asana practice (your typical yoga class of making shapes with your body). To fuel my soul, I’ve developed unique sequences of meditation and pranayama inspired by Katonah and Kundalini yoga that have left me feeling refreshed and re-inspired. I want you to feel the same way!
